First, take an approved basic boating course (classroom, internet or equivalency exam). Then, download this application for your permanent boater education card.
If you have trouble opening the file, click here.
The application is in a fillable, PDF format - fill out the application online and save it, then follow the instructions on the form to email or send to us. For best printing results, select your default setting for 100 percent in color, on clean, white paper. Ensure all information fields are complete. Incomplete applications are returned to the boater.
Send the Marine Board your completed application (mailing address is in the upper left-hand corner of the application form), a copy of your completion certificate, and a check/money order for the one-time $10 fee. The Boater Education Card is good for life, you should receive your card in two to three weeks. Your completion certificate also acts as a temporary permit for your boater education card, good for 60 days from the date of issue.
Note: For application questions or if you need a replacement for a lost or damaged card, please call (503) 378-5163.
